Tethered is based on images that H. Jennings Sheffield photographed of her life every 30 minutes over a four month period of time. These photographs document her life as she performs her many roles of artist, mother, teacher, wife, and daughter. This body of work investigates the tethering-effect experienced every day by portraying what a specific period of time looks like during different days of the week. Using a mathematical formula, and pulling from thousands of images, the artist creates individual compressed images of time. Once these images are digitally sliced and reintegrated, each resulting compiled image displays how the artist's many different life events and interactions inevitably merge into a singular life experience.

H. Jennings Sheffield (Woodway, TX) is a contemporary artist working in lens-based media, digital video, and sound. Her work has been widely shown across the United States and internationally, as well as featured in numerous publications and media outlets. She is an Assistant Professor of Art at Baylor University teaching analog and digital photography.
