Recording Grants to Jazz Musicians & General Music Education for Youth

Overview

Initiated by the Cielo Foundation, Pathways To Jazz is dedicated to investing in the next generation of jazz musicians and to facilitating young peoples’ access to music education. Pathways To Jazz funds provide critical financial support to individual artists, directly contributing to the rich cultural tradition of American jazz, and to organizations that deliver high-quality music education for youth.

Artist Recording Grants
Since 2014, Pathways To Jazz has identified exceptional jazz talent and awarded grants for professional-quality recordings that help launch and elevate artists’ careers. To date, the program has provided $526,000 in funding through 131 individual music grants. In 2024, the grant expanded internationally to Italy, with a total of 13 Italian jazz musicians receiving support in 2024 and 2025.

Music Education Partnerships
This program delivers transformative music education to young people in public schools and communities that lack sufficient resources. Support includes funding for year-long public school music programs, music camps, operational assistance for music schools, student instruments, mentorship, and private lessons.

With its growing national and international reach, Pathways To Jazz seeks philanthropic partners to help scale its impact and strengthen a sustainable model that nurtures talent, ensures the future of jazz, and brings the joy and lifelong benefits of music education to young people.

YOUR IMPACT: Your gift fuels one or both of the following pathways:

Recording Projects – Expanding the catalog of professionally recorded jazz and helping artists advance their careers and education and expanding their professional opportunities. (Grant amounts to musicians range between $3,000-$5000 per artist.)
School Music Programs – Providing lessons, instruments, teacher support, and live musical experiences to students in under-resourced schools. ($5,000 will fund music education in an under-resourced school for an entire school year)
