Longmont Art in Public Places Call for Artist submissions for “Shock Art”

Longmont, Colo. – Longmont Art in Public Places is pleased to announce the continuation of the annual Shock Art program by launching the Call for Artist submissions.

Artists wishing to participate should create a 11”L x 10”W x 7.25”H hand painted scale model and complete the online Shock Art submission form. All models are due no later than May 31st, 2024.

Models can be delivered to:

  • Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road, Longmont, CO 80501 Monday through Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sunday 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
  • Longmont Downtown District Authority, 320 Main Street, Longmont, CO 80501, Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Visitors are welcome to vote for their favorite designs at Old Town Marketplace 332 Main Street, where the boxes will be on display from June 8th- June 23rd as well as at the Longmont Museum, where boxes will be on display June 24th – July 13th.

Each person will receive five votes for their five favorite designs – one vote per design. The Art in Public Places Commission will tally the votes and select the locations for the winning designs. Artists will be notified in late July. Selected participants will be required to attend a program orientation and will receive $2,000 for their time and materials.

Shock Art is a collaborative effort between Art in Public Places and Longmont Power & Communications, who owns and oversees the equipment.  Artists’ stipends are funded by 1% of City Capital Improvement Projects which funds the public art program within the City of Longmont.
