Description

The Boulder Tattoo Project is looking for participants and sponsors!

The Boulder Tattoo Project is a community focused attachment art project, modeled after the Lexington Tattoo Project, a recent collaboration between Kentucky artists Kremena Todorova and Kurt Gohde.  What started as a Facebook request for Lexington residents to have the words of a love poem to the city, written by Kentucky Poet Bianca Spriggs, inked on their bodies has become a local phenomenon and is garnering national attention.

Boulder is the second city to embark on this type of project.

The project includes commissioning a love poem to Boulder, written by local poet, Anne Waldman, tattooing words and phrases from the poem on participants, documenting the process and photographing the finished work. It will be an ongoing project that will culminate with a short film that showcases the finished tattoos and unveils a hidden image that can only be seen when each of the tattoos are shown as one image.

Anne Waldman is one of the founders of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poets, at Naropa University.  Her poetry is recognized as a part of the Whitman and Ginsberg lineage and she has authored over 40 books.  We are incredibly lucky to have Anne be the poet for the project.  The poem will be released shortly after its due date of August 1, 2013.

At that time, the poem will be divided into words and phrases and designed into templates for the tattoos.  Artists and sponsors will have their first pick of their tattoo, and other participants will be assigned tattoos from their top three choices.

This innovative project marries multiple art forms, establishes community in a provocative and unequivocal way, and promotes a variety of local business through sponsorship and exposure.

Participants must fit the following requirements:

-Be at least 18 years of age

-Think of Boulder as your home

-Love Boulder

-Be willing to participate in Meet and Greet and other events

-Be willing to be photographed and filmed during the process

-Be in or around Boulder for the next year or so to participate in related events

Benefits of Sponsorship:

Sponsors who donate funds to support the project will receive media attention and will be listed on all related documents.  Please note that the Lexington Tattoo Project gained attention in numerous media outlets including CNN, and INKED Magazine, as well as many other local news sources.  The Boulder Tattoo Project intends on raising the same sort of awareness to the Project and will be working closely with Kurt and Kremena to bring consistency and potency to the project.

If sponsors choose to participate in the project by getting a tattoo, they can choose any phrase from the poem (according to how the poem has been divided for this artwork) not already chosen by another sponsor or by one of the artists.
