Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. This play is not just about the struggles of life but how people deal with them. How we search for someone to love us, to heal us, and to truly see us.

Director Josh Hartwell says, "What attracts me to "Gruesome Playground Injuries" is its tenderness and heart inside a very non-traditional scabby love story. The physical pain that these two characters endure--and even, in a sense, embrace--helps them conceal their much deeper emotional pain in a way that I'd never seen or read before.  It's grim and touching and filled with brutal and honest writing."

Actor, improviser and educator Kevin Lowry has appeared in productions at Arvada Center, Aurora Fox, Breckenridge Backstage Theatre, The Betsy Stage, Curious Theatre Company, Miners Alley and received the Broadway World, Best Supporting Actor award for his role in Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo at The Edge Theater.  He regularly appears with improv groups Makeshift Shakespeare and Hot Nap. A (very busy) actor and teaching artist, Mackenzie Sherburne has appeared in productions at The Denver Center, Curious Theatre, Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company, The Catamounts, Vintage Theatre, TheatreWorks, Town Hall Arts Center and Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge.

Rajiv Joseph received the 2013 Steinberg Playwright Award, given every other year to playwrights in the early and middle stages of their careers. In 2010 his "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo" was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. This year, Joseph has had two world premieres of new plays. South Coast Repertory presented the world premiere of "Mr. Wolf," as part of the 18th Annual Pacific Playwrights Festival and Atlantic Theater Company presented the world premiere of "Guards at the Taj." Joseph is a writer on the Showtime series "Nurse Jackie," and co-authored the football movie "Draft Day" starring Kevin Costner.

In addition to the regular run, press is invited to attend the preview performance on Thursday, July 23. Please RSVP to Kevin Lowry at passagetheatredenver@gmail.com or 720-979-8486.
