Normal Heights – the award-winning musical satire about masculinity and coming of age in the U.S. – returns to the Front Range in support of straight talk about sexuality, inclusion, and the costs of silence.

The piece, awarded “Best International Act” of the Brighton (UK) Fringe Festival and a five-star audience favorite of the Boulder Fringe in 2013, was inspired by performer and CU Instructor Jim Walker’s relationship with his uncle Edward, a gay man forcibly outed in 1950’s San Diego.

Co-created with Denver Center for the Performing Arts Composer Gary Grundei and award-winning theatre artist Meridith Grundei, the show combines cabaret, theater, and memoir to examine the tensions and silences around two young men’s coming of age – and what happened one night on a road trip across Southern California.

The show will be featured at the GALA National Leadership Symposium, to be held in Denver, Sept. 5, after which it plays seven public performances in Boulder County with the Center for Musical Arts, Lafayette, and the Boulder International Fringe Festival, between Sept 12-26.

In partnership with OUT Boulder, two performances will be followed by a “Talk it Out” community forum about sexuality and inclusion (Sat, Sept 12 in Lafayette & Sat, Sept 19 in Boulder).
