First Congregational Church

The Building

First Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ, Boulder, is the oldest existing congregational church in the state of Colorado. It was organized July 17, 1864, in a cottonwood grove near Valmont Butte, with 14 original members. Later Boulder was chosen as the site for the church over Valmont, as Boulder gave promise of being the future business and educational center and the county seat. From 1865 to 1875 the Reverend Nathan Thompson was pastor of the church, the first full-time minister in Boulder. Our church has a newly renovated chapel conveniently located at Broadway and Pine in downtown Boulder. The church is across the street from the Hotel Boulderado and is also less than 1/2 mile from the St. Julien Hotel, the Rembrandt Yard and the Pearl Street Mall. First Congregational Church was built in 1907 and is one of the oldest churches in Boulder. Click here for a Virtual Tour of the Chapel. We have a beautiful newly renovated Sanctuary that will seat 350 people. We also have a new chapel that seats 60 people. Both have stained glass windows and flexible seating arrangements. We also have a small parking lot available as well as the public lots behind the church.
