Fiske Planetarium

The Building

Fiske Planetarium is located on the campus of the University of Colorado, in Boulder, Colorado.

Fiske opened in 1975 with a generous donation from Wallace Franz Fiske, class of 1917. We are proud to be a part of the Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences Department and we serve CU faculty and students, local schools and teachers, our community, and out of town visitors. We offer a diverse range of fulldome films, star talks, live talks, laser and liquid sky shows, concerts, and special live events, as well as host large crowds during astronomical and NASA-related events.

Our planetarium's 65-foot diameter dome (the largest between Chicago and Los Angeles) was for many years home to one of the few Zeiss Mark VI star projectors, affectionately known as "Fritz," after the German engineer who oversaw its installation. In 2013, Fiske completed a major systems upgrade with an 8K Sky-Skan projection system that allows us to show the most cutting-edge content in a truly immersive environment that fully surrounds audiences with a huge screen, dazzling visuals, and fantastic sound. The new MegaStar projector shows 10 million stars and the Milky Way, creating one of the most beautiful indoor skies ever. Our planetarium can seat 206 guests.

Hours

Our exhibit space and Box Office are open to the public during the summer Monday thru Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through August 18th.
