The Space

Our beautiful facility is available for events! Parties, conferences, theater, concerts…we do it all! We are centrally located and can provide many versatile options for your event.

Space availability varies monthly. Non-profit educational activities are given priority. Advertised programs must be open and accessible to the general public. Request for private events such as weddings, receptions, memorials, welcomed. Community and Non-Profit rates available.

Since 1975, Su Teatro has rented its spaces to over 1,000 community based organizations. As part of our mission, Su Teatro believes it is important to encourage discussion and dialogue to increase understanding among different and diverse groups and cultures. We want to include many different types of events in our rental schedule and we will work with you to make that happen!

The Building

Su Teatro  began in 1971 as a student-organized theater group at the University of Colorado at Denver. In 1989, Su Teatro purchased the old Elyria School in Northeast Denver and became El Centro Su Teatro, a  multidisciplinary cultural arts center.

Twenty-one years later in September, 2010 Su Teatro purchased The Denver Civic Theater at 721 Santa Fe Dr.

For over 40 years, Su Teatro has established a national reputation for homegrown productions that speak to the history and experience of Chicanos.  Su Teatro has created more than 15 original full length productions that have toured widely to venues such as New York’s Public Theater, The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in San Antonio, Plaza de la Raza & Los Angeles Theatre Center in Los Angeles.

The artistic excellence of our programs and our relevance to the field has been recognized nationally through funding from the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District, the Shubert FoundationTheatre Communications GroupWestern States Arts Federation, the National Performance Network, the National Endowment for the ArtsNetwork of Ensemble Theaters, the Kresge Foundation, the American Composers Forum and Community Shares of Colorado.
