For this funding cycle individual artists may apply for Fellowships (in one of two rotating disciplines) as well as Project or Equipment support. Organizations may apply for project or equipment support. Individual artists and organizations may only receive one grant per calendar year and may not receive grants in two consecutive cycles. The exception is the Fellowship award, which may be in addition to a Project or Equipment grant.

Fellowships: BCAA Fellowships are unrestricted cash awards designed to further the established artist's career and to recognize artistic achievement through an accumulated body of work in the designated discipline. Every year, fellowships are awarded in different disciplines. The following criteria are used to evaluate fellowship applications:

  • Artistic excellence of accumulated work
  • Evidence of artistic achievement
  • Impact of the fellowship on the artist's career

Schedule: Fellowships are awarded in 6 disciplines on a rotating schedule - 2 disciplines each year, to be repeated every 3rd year. The following is the schedule for the next 3 years:

  • 2018 - Music and Literature
  • 2019 - Media and Theatre
  • 2020 - Dance and Visual Art

Individual and Organization Project or Equipment Support: Project grants will be awarded to support artistically excellent work that has a broad impact on the community. Impact may include outreach efforts, audience education, collaborations, and partnerships. Individual artists may include equipment in their project requests. The following criteria are used to evaluate project support applications:

  • Artistic excellence of the proposed project
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out project
  • Impact on the community
  • Impact on the artist's career
  • Evidence of need
  • Project takes place during the year following the grant award
