Voyage to Powerful Board Governance: Board Governance 101

You’ve joined a board because you believe in its mission and you want to use your special skill set to make the organization stronger. But, how do you practically do that? In this session, Nikki McCord of McCord Consulting Group will teach you how to be a conscientious board director who understands your role in relationship to the organization. Through understanding the fundamentals of board governance, you will be better positioned to contribute your skills in a way that is valued by the organization.

Nikki Rashada McCord is the founder of McCord Consulting Group and has been in the business consulting and board development fields for over a decade. As the Senior Director of Communications & Legislative Affairs at Scofes & Associates Consulting, Inc. she represented Fortune 500 companies  in Michigan. She was asked by former Michigan Governor, Jennifer Granholm, to be the Legislative Advisor for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Ms. McCord has worked on educational and labor policy at the Colorado General Assembly. She has consulted with organizations looking to implement organizational change from Board engagement to recruitment of minority employees that is culturally competent and supportive.

 

Ms. McCord earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame and her Masters of Public Policy at Michigan State University.

 

She is the Diversity Council Region 2 and Region 4 Director for the University of Notre Dame and was named the November 2015 Boulder Young Pro to Know by the Boulder Chamber of Commerce.
