How to Read Financial Statements

This workshop is for artists, small nonprofits and other mission-driven organizations, their boards as well as community members who serve or are interested in serving on grant funding panels with BCAA or other funders. Even if you have no immediate plans to serve on grant panels, this workshop will be useful for anyone that would like to increase their understanding of non-profit financials. Items covered will include: balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and how to interpret financial statements for signs of financial health or weakness/risk.

Presented by Deborah Malden, Arts Liaison & Advisor at the Boulder Chamber.  

Deborah’s role at that the Boulder Chamber combines her life-long passion for the arts and a 20-year career in banking and finance.  Deborah is the Boulder County appointee to the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District Board, which directs over $60 million of public funds each year to over 300 arts, culture and scientific nonprofits in the Denver Metro region, and serves on the boards of Boulder’s 3rd Law Dance /Theater and Social Venture Partners Boulder County, a volunteer-powered organization that provides financial support and consulting services to build the organizational capacity of local nonprofits.  Deborah has served on the board of The Dairy Center for the Arts where she also later served as interim executive director.
