In this talk artists and CU Boulder MFA candidates Alejandra Abad and Román Anaya, will discuss their project Flags of Hope/Banderas de Esperanza, which creates flags featuring multilingual messages of community aspirations that will be displayed in multiple public and virtual spaces as a way to reclaim and redefine patriotism.
Starting in January, the project will feature virtual workshops with Lighthouse Writers, a COVID-safe motorcade with collections of community-made flags in Denver's Santa Fe Art District, and outdoor installations at Museo de Las Americas and other locations. We will learn how these arts organizations have provided mentorship and amplified community impact through collaboration. In addition, we will discuss how Boulder County organizations can work with Abad◮Anaya to build community-engaged and inclusive arts practice in Boulder County.
This program is co-organized by Boulder County Arts Alliance and the Office for Outreach and Engagement, as part of the Equity and Inclusiveness Series and a new Antiracism Action Initiative with Boulder arts organizations.
