Copyright & Trademarks for Artists

Registration is closed for this event
This workshop will provide the “next level” knowledge of how the intricacies of copyright and trademark law can operate for those running creative- or arts-based businesses. This workshop will also provide an overview of intellectual property licensing, and how you, as a creative professional, can leverage your work and content to generate revenue.

Most artists, designers and other creative professionals have done their homework and educated themselves on the basics of copyrights and trademarks.  However, many creatives then struggle to apply their knowledge to the day-to-day operation of their businesses and livelihoods. This workshop will help you identify and deal with practical business issues.

What is a “work for hire” and can I still use something I created at my old job?  How do I trademark a logo, and should I also copyright my logo?  What do I do if I see someone is using my work on the Internet without my permission?  Why are copyrights in music so complicated?  Why did YouTube take down my video and what should I do next? If I found some useful works on the Internet, how am I allowed to use them? What if it’s really old?

Please come with your questions and examples, as we hope to discuss those topics most relevant to our attendees!
