CCTL Solicits Original Plays for 9th Annual Front Range Playwrights' Showcase

Coal Creek Theater of Louisville will present an evening of new plays written by Colorado playwrights on Friday, August 21, 2015. There will be staged readings of the selected scripts that will be adjudicated, and the winner will receive a cash award and may have the opportunity to see their winning entry fully realized onstage as a CCTL production in 2016.

Coal Creek Theater of Louisville, CO seeks submissions for their 9th Annual Front Range Playwrights’ Showcase.  Colorado playwrights are invited to submit their short plays by June 5, 2015.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

1. One-act plays with scripts of 15 – 40 minutes in performance are being solicited.  
2. No musicals or multiple act plays will be considered, nor will plays that have been professionally published or performed as fully realized productions (e.g. with props and costumes, admission charged, etc.).  However, a script may be submitted if it has been previously performed as a staged reading or as part of an educational project.  Entrants may contact Steve at stevetrek@comcast.net with any questions regarding script eligibility.
3. Only one (1) submission per playwright.
4. Playwrights must have their primary address within the state of Colorado.  Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for those living in towns that immediately border state lines.
5. Scripts must include a cast list with brief character descriptions and short summary of the play.
6. Preferred method of submission is electronic in either Word or PDF format.
7. If you wish to submit by USPS, 6 copies of each script must be submitted in standard manuscript format and bound, not stapled, with card stock cover. Copies will not be returned.
8. Please include a cover letter with title of play, resume and ALL contact information for playwright:  address, phone and email address.  In addition, a short playwright bio or resume should be included as a separate document.

10. Deadline for submissions is June 5, 2015.  Finalists will be notified by July 17, 2014.
11. All scripts submitted will be read, reviewed and scored by the members of the CCTL Play Reading Committee.  Three or four finalists (depending on the performance time of the selected pieces) will be chosen for a reader’s theater presentation at Coal Creek Theater of Louisville’s Front Range Playwrights’ Showcase on August 21, 2015.  The Showcase is an adjudicated event, and the winner of that competition will receive a cash award.
12. PRODUCTION RIGHTS:  If a playwright is selected to be a finalist in the Showcase, he/she must agree to grant CCTL exclusive rights to present his or her play as a fully produced premiere event at some point in CCTL's 2016 season; for example, as part of an "evening of one acts" or as CCTL's 2016 entry in the Colorado Community Theater Coalition's annual Festival competition.  CCTL agrees to inform playwright finalists by no later than December 31, 2015 of their decision regarding production of their play(s).  CCTL's exclusive rights to produce a finalist play will end on either:   1) the date on which a decision is made not to produce the play or 2) if the play is produced by CCTL, on the day after CCTL's closing performance of the play.

Playwrights whose work has been selected as a Showcase finalist two years in a row are ineligible to submit a play in the third year.  Eligibility resumes in the fourth year.  Example:  John's plays were selected as finalists in 2013 and 2014, so John would not be eligible to submit a play in 2015.  However, he would be eligible to submit again in 2016.
