Description[Edit This]
LIFE/LIGHT for Rosalyn Franklin is a suspended staircase sculpture in a 4 and a half story stairwell. The object of the medical facility was to attract people to the stairs as a "free exercise" machine, in place of the elevator. The subject of this abstraction is life and movement. The form is a DNA double helix, representing "life". The helix is compressed in the basement and continually expands as it reaches the 4th floor clerestory. This spring-like stretch stands for movement, like the expansion of a spring. The colors in the glass are projected onto the walls with the light and projections changing throughout the day and evening. 2004, 2005. At Kaiser Permanente Rock Creek.
