Artist Trine Bumiller created "River Story," a work that encompasses the idea of rivers, while specifically tailoring the theme to the University of Colorado- Boulder. The piece is comprised of six separate oil paintings, each measuring 18 inches by 80 inches. These are hung in an irregular pattern to create the sense of a flowing river and best utilize the space. Subjects of the work include a river, diatoms, a dendritic river system, willows, lily pads, and the Milky Way, which is referred to in Native American legend as the "river of stars." Each of these pertains to the study of environmental engineering. The materials used to create "River Story" were oils on wood, with the oils being thinly layered to provide the work with a "rich, glowing luminescent effect." 2001.
