Position Title: Associate Producer

Reports to: Artistic Director

Classification: Salaried, non-exempt

Location: Boulder, Colorado and other performance locations

(work-from-home with some on-site hours required)

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Catamounts are dedicated to making theatre for the adventurous palate. Founded in 2011, after eleven years of creating performance as intrepid as Coloradans, we have emerged as one of the most innovative companies in our region. Said Lisa Kennedy of our work in the Denver Post:

The Catamounts performance group has a talent for giving good spectacle. Boldly envisioned, fluidly executed shows have become their artistic stock and trade. And, whether it’s traipsing “theatergoers” through Flatiron scrub on a summer eve (“Rausch”) or boarding them on an imagined ill-fated DC-10 jet (“United Flight 232”) or seating them in a Quaker-meeting-like circle around a morality/mortality play (“Everybody”), the group has been on a tear.

In many ways, the pandemic has only revealed that being a small, agile, inventive professional company can be a superpower rather than a liability. Our small-audience productions often sell out before they open, and we must grow our capacity to meet demand.

That’s where our new Associate Producer comes in.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As our adventurous theatre company has grown, so too has our need for production and administrative support. We are seeking a part-time Associate Producer. As a core member of a two-person administrative team, the Associate Producer will partner on the management of our company with our Artistic Director.

The person who fills this role should embrace every facet of running a small but robust theatre company. Responsibilities will include leading public communications efforts on all of The Catamounts’ programming and projects; building and maintaining relationships with partners and sponsors; providing administrative support for personnel and productions; and fundraising through individuals and corporate sponsorships. This is an open-ended position with room for growth.

Candidates who are best suited for the position have a spirit of exploration and “building the plane as we fly it”-ness. We’re looking for folks who are excellent relationship-builders, entrepreneurial, organized, and love being a part of something grass-roots and innovative. We also need someone who has working knowledge of or a quick learning curve with online platforms like Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); the online marketing program Constant Contact; social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

If you have a Bachelor’s Degree In Business, Marketing or Theater Administration, that would likely prepare you for this job, but so would working in  event planning, hotel management and start-up internet companies. If you have worked in theater previously, that’s super cool, but if you’re bringing your biz smarts to the table, we like that too. Candidates with multi layered work backgrounds are encouraged.

Because a diverse perspective is critical to our work, we strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQIA+ people, immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and other candidates who identify with underrepresented groups to apply.

COMPENSATION + COMMITMENT

This part-time position starts at $26,000/year, with a generous paid-time off policy with a baseline of 4 weeks per year. In addition, the expectation is that some weeks will require more hours, some fewer, so the work load of this position can and should accommodate other life stuff.

This is primarily a work-from-home position, with scheduled access to The Catamounts’ administrative offices at The Studio Boulder. Hours for this job can be chosen by the candidate hired, but this position requires weekend and nightly availability when we are in production.

A large portion of the Associate Producers’ duties are computer- and internet-based. It would be very helpful for the candidate to have a reliable internet connection in your home. If you do not, but you believe you’re the right person for the job, you should apply anyway. We can work on it together.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You will help to grow and ensure the sustainability of a boundary-pushing theatre company which cannot currently meet demand due to capacity issues. You will help us meet that demand.

Your job will look a little bit different every day, and you’ll have a chance to hone a variety of skills. We consider it our responsibility to help equip you to move forward on your career path, and we will offer professional development opportunities so you can achieve the growth you seek.

You will participate in an intentional work culture that promotes curiosity, freedom to fail, active listening, empathy, perspective-taking, responsible decision-making, leadership, and compassionate action.

You will work hard and stretch your capacity, but you will feel purposeful and proud, knowing that your efforts make a difference to real people in our local community.

You will feel a part of the larger picture. Our work culture is transparent, hope-fueled, and person-centered.
